How it works

Food Relief

HEALTHY ingredients and FUN recipes packed in a friendly Feed London box

Fresh ‘cook at home’ ready meals have been a big success recently and Feed London works in much the same way.

Because while holidays are fun for many of us, they can also be a time when families are stretched to breaking point – particularly during lockdown with the impact of Covid-19.

Feed London provides healthy, tasty ingredients, supermarket vouchers and fun and easy to follow recipes – packaged in a friendly Feed London box. It helps fill the gap during the school holidays.

Reaching families most in need

Feed London aims to support 1000’s of children and their families in those London boroughs with the highest rates of child poverty in the UK.

What makes Feed London different is that we reach deep into the heart of London’s most challenged communities. Many were already struggling with poverty even before the pandemic.

We work in partnership with referral organisations across all London boroughs with the highest rates of child poverty in the UK - from social workers in the early response teams at local councils, to Great Ormond Street Hospital, Hackney Arc, Royal Marsden, Homerton Hospital, children centres such as Bright Star in Islington, Park Lane Centre in Haringey and many more. This ensures we reach those children in most need – where Feed London will have the most impact.

Working with Thomas Franks food fulfilment company, we deliver fresh food boxes straight to the families’ door at the start of the school holidays.

More than just food aid

We believe in taking a whole family approach to encourage long-term healthy eating, and to introduce children to the fun of cooking – from choosing the food to following a menu to eating what they have cooked – nothing tastes better than food you have cooked yourself.

Feed London’s food box journey

1.

You donate to Feed London

Your gift (from as little as £20) contributes toward a Feed London Food Box.

£50 buys a complete box of ingredients – enough for six highly nutritious meals for a family of four.

£125 buys the Feed London food box plus a £75 supermarket voucher – for those families really struggling.

All boxes come with child friendly recipes, children’s activity kits, and lots of treats.

2.

Our partners on the ground refer families

Our referral partners identify families most in need.

All are drawn from those London Boroughs with the highest poverty rates in the UK. The top ten are: Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Southwark, Islington, Greenwich, Lambeth and Lewisham.

3.

Families members choose the meals that suit their needs

We provide enough choice to suit everyone’s tastebuds, as well as different dietary needs – there’s something for everyone.

4.

We order the food

Our food fulfilment partner creates the Feed London Food Box - they guarantee every family receives the best and freshest food available.

5.

The Feed London Food Box is delivered at the start of the holidays.

Each box is filled with ingredients, recipes, a £75 supermarket voucher and much more – like a personalised ‘cook at home’ food delivery.

6.

Let the home cooking begin!

Families have access to their menus of choice with easy to follow instructions for children and they can put the supermarket voucher to best use.

7.

It doesn’t end there...

We want to know how it has gone, so we ask each family for their feedback. What was the best recipe? What did the children enjoy? How can we make it better the next time around?

family stories

Facing health issues and disabilities, Kanizas and her family are doing their best to cope.

Kanizas has very severe learning and physical disabilities – Covid has been particularly hard for her as she couldn’t get out due to a compromised immune system.

The family are on a very low income and really struggling to make ends meet.

And while they are doing their best in really tough circumstances, their home is in dire need of decorating and repair. For the moment, there are no additional funds or any sign of a new home.

It’s difficult to describe or even consider what life has been like – stuck inside the entire Covid lockdown, no funds for anything new, living in a cold, damp house 24/7, no treats – too frightened even to go to the park.

Receiving a Feed London food box has meant the world to Kanizas – she particularly loved the treats and chocolate eggs. The Toucan activity set was a tremendous hit. But the financial lift it gave her mum and dad really help – came at a time when they were at their lowest - food for a week and with the voucher they could top up the fridge through the rest of the school holiday.
